Traffic, parking, and related congestion concerns for the narrow one-way street.

Picture
TRAFFIC:
Cotter Street is a one-way street and a primary thoroughfare for drivers going from San Jose Ave. to Alemany Blvd.

During key commute hours, Cotter street already has numerous cars traveling down it. With the addition of a school that includes 200 students and more than a dozen or more staff, this congestion will grow exponentially.

Also, as with any school, parents will be dropping off and picking up their children.  If the Cotter St. location weren't such a narrow one-way street, this would not be as much of a problem.  But because of its configuration, the result will be significant back-ups with will dramatically change the quality of life for residents who have chosen to make this neighborhood their home.

The school's plans to have a remote drop-off and group walks to the site and completely unenforceable, and voluntary, at best.

"Living right across from a school in San Francisco, I can verify the utter madness of parents driving their kids to school. Not only does it cause increased traffic, but it decimates quiet neighborhoods with the completely self-absorbed parents constantly honking at each other and double-parking while dropping their kids, completely oblivious to the fact that they are in someone else's quiet, calm neighborhood."

PARKING:
Parking is already very difficult in the neighborhood, made more so by individuals who use the neighborhood to park their cars and then walk to the BART station. School support staff that commute to work will end up parking in our already overcrowded neighborhood.

Adding to the problem is the current development plan to include 2 parking spaces, and a white zone that will prohibit neighbors from using for parking.
